How many acres is the park?

Ouabache Trails Park is a 254 acre park.

When was the park first established?

The land for Ouabache Trails Park was purchased on June 22, 1982 for $300,000 from PSI. $100,000.00 of which PSI donated back to the park.

How was the park named?

A contest was held to select the name for the new park. At a meeting on February 24, 1983, a motion was made by Tim Moyes and seconded by Robert Dayson to name the park Ouabache Trails .

When did construction start at the park?

Surveying began in the fall of 1982 with construction starting in November. On August 25, 1983 V.U. Building Trades Students built the Superintendents house-office. The park offically open in 1985.

Are there any historical references to the park?

Indian bones were found near the park. According to State Archaeologist, Rick Jones, the human remains that were found are now located at a State University. This was one of the first accidental discoveries under a new state law that protects such finds. Under the Native American Graves Protection & Repatriation Act, the bones may be reburied if they are of no scientific value. Also According to Rick Jones, there are archaeological sites protected with the park. There was suspicion that a cemetery in the area would have been connected to Fort Knox, however one has never been discovered. Mr. Jones indicated that the bodies of soldiers might have been carried into town to be buried. Many Native American relics have been found in Ouabache Trails Park.
  
  
When does the camping season start?

Our camping season opens in mid March and closes November 1st of each year.
